Why Does Supporting Israel Matter?

Click here for further policy memorandums

  • Israel remains the only democracy in the Middle East, and an indispensable partner in fighting terrorism. We must always fight for Israel’s right to exist from its enemies who want to wipe Israel off the face of the map.
  • The Jewish people have been persecuted for millennia and were nearly wiped out by Hitler. The state of Israel grants the Jewish people a place of their own, but they are surrounded on nearly all sides by enemies who have tried to wipe them out.

How Did President Trump Bring Peace to the Middle East?

  • President Trump, Jared Kushner, and Secretary Pompeo helped stand with Israel by fulfilling the promise made by several presidents to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem. We recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and had Israel's back against terrorist threats from Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran.
  • By highlighting the joint threat to Israel and Arab nations from the Islamic Republic of Iran, the United States showed countries in the Middle East that they shared more in common than they had apart. Together with bold and creative leadership from President Trump's negotiating team, the United States was able to conclude five historic peace deals between Israel and its neighbors.
  • Instead of furthering the progress of peace, President Biden has failed to even appoint an envoy responsible for Middle East Peace. He has reverted back to the approach of equivocation that failed to provide peace for Israel or dignity and prosperity for the Palestinian people.

What exactly are the Abraham Accords?

The Abraham Accords is the name given to two peace deals organized in 2020 by the United States between Israel and UAE, as well as between Israel and Bahrain.

In addition, further peace agreements between Israel and Kosovo, Morocco, Sudan were signed later in 2020 and are often colloquially lumped in with the other peace deals and collectively called the Abraham Accords.

Why Are Hamas and Hezbollah So Dangerous?

  • Hamas and Hezbollah are both designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations – yet we now have a caucus of progressives, like Ilhan Omar and AOC defending every action they take.
  • The progressives are doing exactly what Hamas wants. Hamas knows it can't win a war against Israel or get concessions from them just by firing rockets - their whole strategy is to play the victim and undermine Israel's security budget.
  • The only reason there aren't more Israeli civilians dead is because of the Iron Dome that shoots down 90% of Hamas' rockets - that is a direct result of our support for Israel's military, and our support to them is vital.
  • Where does Hamas get all these rockets and the money to attack Israel? Their main patron is Iran, who provides them $30 million a month, and gave Hamas the long-range rockets that have been hitting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem - they are also directly responsible for this violence.
  • Yet, Biden's envoy to Iran, Rob Malley, has said that Hamas is "misunderstood" and talked about their charity work. He was fired from Obama's campaign in 2008 because he had so many meetings with Hamas - yet now he is the one negotiating a deal that would give Iran $90 billion and no restrictions on their support for terrorism and groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.

SUNNI VS. SHIA ISLAM: IMPLICATIONS FOR U.S. FOREIGN POLICY

The Sunni-Shia centuries long sectarian split has caused significant tension and violence in the Middle East. U.S. policy makers can use the sectarian distinction as a useful lens when approaching foreign policy in the Islamic world.

SUNNI VS. SHIA ISLAM: IMPLICATIONS FOR U.S. FOREIGN POLICY

Radical Islamic terrorists groups like Hamas and Hezbollah launch rockets into civilian-populated areas of Israel any chance they get. Thankfully, through U.S. support, Israel can maintain The Iron Dome-- an integrated missile defense system that stops 90% of fired rockets and protects almost 10 million Jewish, Christian, and Muslim Israeli citizens.
